Hi, I’m Maulik Pancholy, and I’m the author of The Best At It.
And these are my top three recommendations for books featuring LGBTQ characters.
My first recommendation is Kheryn Callender’s Hurricane Child.
This book is so beautiful, it is so moving, and so important in terms of what it’s dealing with.
And personally I can relate a lot to the things it brought up around racism and shadeism, and the book won the Stonewall award.
So check it out.
My second recommendation is Drama by Raina Telgemeier.
So as a kid who was in the drama club and as an adult who works a lot in animation, I was super exited to see these two things come together in this graphic novel.
It’s really fun and it’s beautifully written and beautifully illustrated.
My third recommendation is Better Nate Than Ever by Tim Federle.
You’ve probably already read this because it’s a classic, but if you haven’t read it, you have to.
It really appeals to every kid who’s ever wanted to move to New York and audition for a Broadway play.
So, that was me.
